salsa!
went salsa dancing last night with a coworker. it’s a different world, salsa dancing. there’s protocol and etiquette that’s unlike the real world. here are the differences, based on my humble two salsa experiences:
if a guy asks you to dance
real world: depends on if they’re cute and you’re in the mood to dance w/ a random. saying no is normal.
salsa world: you dance with them, regardless of the cuteness factor. saying no is generally frowned upon.
older, Latino men
real world: would never intentionally go out of my way to talk to them
salsa world: they are HOT commodities, because typically they are usually the best leaders
control:
real world: women can do the leading, persuading, bossing around, dominating - just as much as men can. sometimes more.
salsa world: the woman HAS to just let the guy lead .. or else it turns into a hot mess. while it is a little challenging, it’s also kind of a relief to not worry about what to do next - i just have to be open to following. this is one area in which i’m okay with relinquishing power. the office? that’s a different story.
man/woman ratio
real world: usually about even, sometimes a sausage fest at clubs
salsa world: women outnumber men, probably by 2:3 - this means guys get their pick and women sometimes have to wait to dance
ok so for the last one my statistical analysis is based pretty much solely on my experience last night - the ratio at most clubs is probably about even. but all other observations on this list are completely reliable and scientifically proven.
